Team for Villa
|
For the first time in a while I would think there will be quite a bit of debate about this one. Yes, most of the team still picks itself, but with Antonio almost certainly being available, the question is whether he starts or comes off the bench - earlier if we need him, maybe just a late run-out if we're secure.
Then there's Haller. A cracking goal and an improved performance along with Moyes's penchant for not changing a winning team, makes me pretty certain that he will feature in this one.
I'm going to stick my neck out a bit and say that I think Moyes will start with both Haller and Antonio, with Fornals making way. If it doesn't work and Haller is looking ineffective, expect him to be replaced by either Fornals, Lanzini or Benrahma.
As for the formation, I don't really give a monkeys what you want to call it - it's only a set of numbers, after all. One of the things that has impressed me this season is the flexibility of the system depending on the phase of play. So having two up front doesn't necessarily mean that we have to revert to a 4-4-2, especially as with Cresswell on the left of a back 3, he's playing like a combination of a CB and a FB. Obviously, Bowen would be the most advanced of the midfielders in this set-up.
Fabianski Balbuena Ogbonna Cresswell Coufal Bowen Rice Soucek Masuaku Haller Antonio
Subs: Randolph, Johnson, Diop, Noble, Fornals, Lanzini, Benrahma.

No debate required. Why on earth would you change the formation?
The only question barring injuries is Antonio or Haller up top. The only reason to choose the awful Haller over Antonio is if Antonio is still an injury risk.
Easiest team selection ever.

It's a no brainer keep it as it is. Don't change until needed!

Exactly as Lato said. Assuming everyone from the last game is still fit, then no changes, aside from possibly Antonio for Haller.
Even then maybe Antonio on the bench- there can be no rushing him back given how important he is and we DO have other options in Haller and Benrahma.

Same team and formation as Sheff Utd.
Taking Haller out now would be devastating for him. Plus, Antonio has only just been declared fit and so needs to get up to speed.
We go into the game knowing that we have Antonio on the bench if needed.

I doubt Moyes will make any changes to the first 11 (bench for Antonio)
However, although last week was a great result - the Fulham game before that was not so great, in fact we were outplayed for most of it.
When we're expected to win, the aggressors, I'm not sure 3 centre-backs is the way to do it. Therefore, I think we should get on the front foot, 2 up top, and hopefully catch Villa out.
Maybe a few fresh legs too... Diop and Benrahma to start

My sources are telling me Oggy has suffered a recurrence of the injury that forced him off against Fulham.
But cheers for stalking me.

As many are saying, same as last 2 games, Antonio on the bench.
Fornals should definitely NOT go to the bench!
Best representation of the formation is 3-4-2-1
Fabianski Balbuena, Ogbonna, Cresswell Coufal, Soucek, Rice, Masuaku Bowen Fornals Haller

With Haller in the team, as seems very likely, it makes it even harder for Benrahma to break through. Have to hope he gets chances to impress from the bench.

So if Antonio is fit, some people are suggesting Haller stays in?
He's been missing for a few weeks, not 6 months.
And he has been one of the best PL strikers since restart.
Fucking twats.
